CHAPTER 1 REVIEW    ELEMENTARY ALGEBRA

There are no provisions for making up tests.  If you must be absent on test day you will be able to substitute your final exam grade for that test grade.  Any additional tests missed will receive a grade of zero.
 

Be able to evaluate exponents.   Like p. 31, #7 thru 17
 

Be able to use the order of operations to evaluate an expression containing all numbers.  Like CT #1 & 2, 8 thru 14
 

Be able to substitute values into an expression and Evaluate.  Like CT #15 & 16

Be able to translate word statements into algebraic equations with symbols.  Use x as the variable. Like p. 76, #70 thru 77 and p. 40, 59 thru 66

Be able to tell if a number is a solution to an equation.  Like p. 39, #47 thru 56

Be able to perform all operations on signed numbers.   Like p.98, #43 thru 46 & p. 99, #53 thru 59, p. 100, #71 thru 81

Be able to solve a simple word problem involving positive and negative numbers.  Like    p. 55, #68 and p. 56 #71 thru 74

Be able to name the property illustrated.  Like CT #18 thru 22

Be able to use the distributive property to remove parentheses.  Like p. 85, #58 thru 60

Be able to simplify expressions: 1) Remove parentheses and        CT#23, p.92
                                             2) Combine like terms                  #37 thru 50

Be able to evaluate division involving zero.   0   =  0  ,      n   =  undefined,
